Regeneration Policing Initiative
I was approached by the Community Safety Partnership in Hull to
design and deliver an “away day” for a new team operating
a targeted policing initiative in the City known as the Regeneration
Policing Initiative (RPI). This was a challenging assignment. The
majority of participants were police officers, some with experience
of working in a multi-agency team environment, others brand new
to the concept. Also forming part of the participant group were
colleagues and partners from other agencies, so pitching the programme
at the right level for the day was going to be tricky.

Local Area Partnership Development
An
integral part of Hull’s Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy and
the development of the Local Strategic Partnership has been the
establishment of local area partnerships, co-ordinated by the seven
City Council area teams across the city. I had the privilege of
facilitating six out of seven partnership launches between March
and October 2002.

North Lincolnshire Strategic Partnership
(NLSP) - Partnership Day
NLSP
contacted me in early 2003 to assist in the review of the partnership
into its first year of existence. In common with many of the LSPs
outside of the government’s designated 88 ‘most deprived
areas’, without the benefit of Neighbourhood Renewal Funding,
engaging partners in the process was always potentially more difficult.
The client wanted a high profile review meeting with a broad range
of stakeholders present, from the urban centre of Scunthorpe and
the largely rural surrounding areas.

The Yorkshire and Humber Assembly
- Waste Strategy Consultation Workshops
A
key role for the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly is to influence the
development of new waste policy and legislation and ensure that
the interests of the region are promoted. In drawing up the regional
strategy for waste management, published in July 2003, the Assembly
was committed to a consultation exercise with local authorities
and other key stakeholders including the general public. Reaching
a consensus on managing waste in a region as diverse as Yorkshire
and the Humber was always going to be a challenging process, particularly
given the controversy that surrounds dealing with municipal waste
and issues such as landfill, recycling and incineration.

The Acorns Neighbourhood Partnership
The
Acorns, in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, is an artificial community
in that its boundary was drawn for the purposes of attracting Single
Regeneration Budget (SRB) finance. It encompasses communities of
high social deprivation, and areas with potential for industrial
development. The Acorns Regeneration Project levered in a significant
amount of funding and established several successful social and
economic initiatives. As the funding time expired, I was commissioned
to advise on a suitable exit strategy.

Hull DOC (Developing Our Communities)
Hull
DOC is an experienced and skilled community development organisation
with a proven track record on delivering good & creative practice.
It is committed to supporting communities in having a voice and
a real say in decisions that affect their communities.
After almost 6 years into its existence, as DOC grew to become
the largest community development company in the UK, it became increasingly
aware that whilst many people and agencies in the City were aware
of the company, few knew what it did and the value base its work
was built on.

Business Forum
My
role with the Business Forum has been in a voluntary capacity in
response to an invitation from local business people in connection
with my membership of the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce.
The Business Forum was established as a means of engaging the business
community with the Local Strategic Partnership (Hull Cityvision).
A Steering Group had been pulled together, but it lacked direction
and resources and members were struggling with the agenda. My experience
in partnership working and with LSPs provided an opportunity to
help steer the group forwards, and I accepted an invitation to Chair
the Forum in January 2003.
